Ukrainian President's Statements
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed concern that negotiations with the Russian Federation are being hampered by a shift in U.S. attention away from Ukraine. He stated that American foreign policy is currently more focused on the situation in Iran, leading to repeated postponements of planned trilateral meetings.
“I have a very bad feeling about the impact of this war on the situation in Ukraine. America's focus is more on the Middle East than on Ukraine, unfortunately. That's why you see our diplomatic meetings, trilateral meetings, are constantly being postponed.”

President Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukrainian and U.S. negotiating teams communicate daily, and the American side also maintains contact with Russia. He noted that “President Trump is focused on Iran. Our group talks to the American side every day. I know the Americans are also talking to the Russians every day.” This ongoing conflict has placed Ukraine in a precarious position, caught between a resurgent Russia and a distracted Western ally.
Negotiation Prospects
Zelenskyy also reported that the United States has offered to host a meeting on its own soil, and Ukraine has confirmed its participation. However, Russia has objected to holding the talks in America. The Ukrainian President added:
“The American side, because of this war in Iran, said it is ready to host both sides in America. We confirmed our participation, but the Russians are against a meeting in the United States of America. So for now we are trying to focus on America, proposing a date and place. Ukraine will support any date and any place, but definitely not in Russia.”

The European Union supports the diplomatic efforts led by U.S. President Donald Trump, though further steps in the negotiations depend on how the situation develops.
These statements from President Zelenskyy highlight Ukraine's growing anxiety over shifting American foreign policy priorities and the potential consequences for its security. A reduction in U.S. focus could complicate Ukraine's diplomatic efforts in its ongoing conflict with Russia. The continued support of the European Union remains crucial and may play a key role in ensuring regional stability as global attention shifts. The outcome of talks between Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia could define the future trajectory of the conflict and Ukraine's strategic path forward.
