Negotiations on the peace initiative
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky reported that during negotiations on the peace initiative mediated by the US, it was not possible to reach an agreement on key issues, particularly regarding Donbas and security guarantees. According to Zelensky, there is a vision from three parties – the US, Russia, and Ukraine, but there is no unified position among them regarding the situation in Donbas.
Zelensky also emphasized the importance of concluding a separate security guarantees agreement from the US. He noted that there is one important question that he and all Ukrainians seek an answer to:
“If Russia starts the war again, what will our partners do?” – Volodymyr Zelensky
These comments indicate significant difficulties in reaching a consensus during international negotiations aimed at ensuring stability and security in the region.
The importance of international support
The failure of negotiations signals the complexity of the situation in Ukraine and the importance of international support in resolving the conflict. In light of disagreements among key players such as the US and Russia, Ukraine needs to continue finding ways to strengthen its security and maintain territorial integrity.
At the same time, the issue of security guarantees remains critically important for the country's future, highlighting the need for intensified diplomatic efforts.
