Ukraine-US Negotiations
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed that active negotiations with the United States are currently being conducted at the working-group level. These discussions cover a range of issues, including sanctions. While Zelenskyy has not personally discussed sanctions with the US President on this occasion, he noted that the American side is fully aware of Ukraine's stance.
Key Participants in the Discussions
Representatives involved in the talks with the American side include Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. As Zelenskyy stated,
"We are currently speaking at the level of negotiation groups with the American side—with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Our teams are discussing various issues, including sanctions. There is a public American position, and there is our public position. The US could do it; they have such capabilities regarding sanctions, regarding easing them. And they have done it."
Furthermore, the President emphasized that
"I did not have negotiations with the US President regarding sanctions this time. But he knows the Ukrainian position."Zelenskyy also pointed out the necessity for Ukraine to continue cooperation with the American side, citing 'many issues: with negotiations, with drones, and with the Middle East.' He expressed the intent for the teams to work on organizing a meeting with the US President, as 'there are some issues that are at a standstill.'
This development underscores the ongoing, active diplomatic engagement between Ukraine and the United States, a crucial element of Ukraine's foreign policy. These working-level talks could lay the groundwork for deeper bilateral relations, particularly concerning security and economic support. Maintaining this dialogue is vital for Ukraine as it navigates significant international challenges, with US support being a cornerstone of its defense strategy.
