Statements by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed several critical issues, including the frontline situation, weapons production, international politics, and the work of the Verkhovna Rada. The President asserted that Russia's spring campaign has already failed, as Moscow's initial plans for the season were thwarted.
“To quote our military command, the Russians' spring campaign has already failed,” stated Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Military Initiatives and International Relations
On military developments, Ukraine plans to test the European SAMP/T air defense system this year, which could significantly enhance its defensive capabilities. Furthermore, there is a possibility of finalizing an agreement with the United States for the joint production of drones, a deal potentially worth $35-50 billion. These initiatives underscore Ukraine's drive to develop its domestic defense industry and strengthen cooperation with international partners. These efforts come as Ukraine seeks to counter Russia's advantage in artillery and aerial munitions.
Regarding international relations, Zelenskyy commented on the recent visit of Putin's special envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, to the United States. The President emphasized the importance of understanding why some leaders are willing to discuss resuming the export of Russian oil.
“The first question is: did everyone together decide to resume the export of Russian oil? I said it's difficult for me because leaders want to skip this step,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Domestic policy was also a topic of discussion. Zelenskyy noted that members of parliament must either fulfill their duties in the legislature in accordance with Ukrainian law or consider changes to mobilization rules to enable service on the frontline. “If you do not serve the state in parliament, then serve the state on the frontline,” the President concluded, stressing the importance of national service during wartime.
Collectively, the President's statements highlight Ukraine's intensified efforts across military, international, and domestic spheres, reflecting a commitment to strengthening national defense and adapting to new challenges. These steps indicate Ukraine's intent not only to resist aggression but also to bolster its international standing by acquiring new technologies and securing allied support. The emphasis on domestic governance underscores the necessity of effective resource and personnel management to sustain the country's defense efforts.
