French Diplomat's Unannounced Moscow Visit

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has commented on the unannounced visit to Moscow by Emmanuel Bonne, the diplomatic advisor to French President Emmanuel Macron. Zelenskyy stated that the primary goal of this trip was to explore an alternative dialogue with Russia, which could secure Europe's role in a future peace process. He stressed that ending the war without Ukraine is impossible and expressed his desire for peace talks to be held in a trilateral format involving Ukraine, the United States, and Russia, with the U.S. and Europe potentially acting as moderators.

During his visit, Emmanuel Bonne, the chief diplomatic advisor to President Macron, met with Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov. Zelenskyy noted that Bonne has expressed a desire to end the war both publicly and privately, emphasizing that Europe must have its own voice in this process. According to Zelenskyy, it is critically important that any negotiations to end the war do not occur on a bilateral level without Ukraine's participation.

'I think there are no secrets here. Emmanuel is seeking an alternative dialogue with Russia. He believes Europe should be part of the process to end the war and have its own voice.' Volodymyr Zelenskyy

The Ukrainian President remarked that a trilateral meeting would be fair and reliable, and that 'we would like it to be the U.S. and Europe.' Thus, Zelenskyy's position clearly indicates the necessity of considering Ukraine's interests in any peace process, which could become a crucial step in resolving the conflict in eastern Ukraine. This stance reflects Ukraine's long-standing position that it will not be sidelined in decisions about its own future.

The Critical Need for Ukraine's Role in Peace Talks

Bonne's visit reflects the efforts of international partners to find pathways to restore peace in Ukraine, yet it also underscores the vital importance of including Ukrainians themselves in any negotiations. Considering Ukraine's position is critical for ensuring regional stability and preventing further escalation of the conflict, as any sustainable agreement must be acceptable to the nation most directly affected.
