Zelensky Condemns Drone Strike on Nova Vodolaha: Six Dead Including Children, Urges Maintaining Sanctions

Зеленський висловив обурення через безжальний напад дронів на Нову Водолагу, внаслідок якого загинули шестеро, серед яких діти, та закликав до продовження санкцій.

Drone Attack Devastates Nova Vodolaha

On October 19, 2026, at approximately 4:30 PM, Russian forces launched a drone assault targeting the central park in Nova Vodolaha, Kharkiv region. This tragic attack resulted in the deaths of six individuals, including two young girls. One of the victims was Angelina, just over one year old, born in August 2025, while the other was an 11-year-old girl. Between 14 and 15 people were wounded, with six to seven of the injured being children. The strike involved the use of a 'Geran-3' drone, with reports also mentioning the Russian 'Shahed' drone.

President Zelensky's Response

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack as an "utter atrocity" that claimed the lives of innocent civilians, including children. He expressed deep condolences to the victims' families, particularly to Inna, Angelina's mother, who died in the hospital following the attack. Zelensky emphasized the heartbreaking image of the toddler killed while still in her stroller.

“The little girl was killed in her stroller. Her name was Angelina, she was just over one year old,”

he stressed, appealing to the international community for a stronger response.

Zelensky urged global partners to keep sanctions on Russia intact until the violence ends. He called on the United States to remain steadfast and implement the Lindsey Graham Act, while encouraging Europe to continue its support for Ukraine. The president highlighted the critical need to enhance air defense capabilities to better protect against drone and missile attacks.

“We ask NOT to lift sanctions on Russia until the killings stop. We ask America to stay strong, to apply the Lindsey Graham law. We ask Europe to continue support. We ask for every effort to bring peace and guarantee security,”

he declared.

The head of the Kharkiv regional military administration updated the number of wounded to 15, underscoring the severity of this assault. The Nova Vodolaha strike stands as a grim reminder of the ongoing war, during which Ukraine seeks peace while facing continued Russian aggression.

This incident highlights the escalating violence in Ukraine that has persisted for years. The international community's reaction to such attacks will play a significant role in shaping the future of the region. President Zelensky’s persistent calls to maintain sanctions reflect the crucial importance of global solidarity in countering aggression and protecting innocent civilians.

In light of the recent drone attack in Nova Vodolaha, it is essential to recognize the broader context of escalating violence in Ukraine.
