Zelenskyy's Proposal

In an interview with Bloomberg, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has put forward a conditional offer. He stated that Ukraine would send its experts in downing Iranian drones to the Middle East, provided that regional leaders can persuade Vladimir Putin to agree to a month-long ceasefire in Russia's war against Ukraine. Zelenskyy noted that such a truce could last for two months or two weeks.

'We will send our best operators of interceptor drones to the countries of the Middle East,' Zelenskyy emphasized, adding, 'so that we can help Middle Eastern countries protect their civilian populations.' This offer comes as Ukraine seeks to leverage its hard-won battlefield expertise for diplomatic gains. He also pointed out that the Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar maintain strong economic ties with Vladimir Putin and could therefore facilitate a peace process.

'I would propose this: Middle Eastern leaders have good relations with the Russians. They can ask the Russians to establish a month-long ceasefire,' Zelenskyy declared.

The Situation in the Middle East

Currently, there are 250,000 Ukrainians in the Middle East, and Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working to ensure their safety. According to Andrii Sybiha, there are no Ukrainians among those wounded or affected by the conflict in the region. Some Ukrainians have already been relocated to safer locations in Egypt, demonstrating active measures by the Ukrainian authorities. 'We can help Israel in the same way,' Zelenskyy added.

Zelenskyy's proposal highlights Ukraine's efforts not only to ensure its own security but also to play an active role in international peace initiatives. Engaging with Middle Eastern nations could open new diplomatic avenues for achieving regional peace by utilizing their economic connections with Russia. The development of this situation could significantly impact stability in both Ukraine and the Middle East, given the ongoing conflicts and security threats.
