Emergency Energy Summit Held

On January 15, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy chaired a special emergency meeting on energy with the government and local authorities. The summit addressed the critical situation in the energy sector, including in Kyiv, and decisions regarding curfews. Participants included the Prime Minister, key government members, and representatives of regional and local authorities from Kyiv, Kyiv Oblast, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Sumy Oblast, and Chernihiv Oblast.

During the meeting, the creation of a permanent government task force in Kyiv was announced to work on resolving energy issues. The President stated that time had been lost by the city authorities and that the government level would now correct what was not done at the municipal level. He also pointed out that Kyiv's support centers currently require reinforcement, stressing the need for sufficient allowances during the extreme cold weather so that people and businesses have all necessary resources. This move comes as Ukraine's energy infrastructure faces immense strain following targeted attacks.

Planned Actions and Support

Furthermore, the Ministry of Internal Affairs will ensure the inspection and expansion of the network of support and heating points. The government must also facilitate the simplification and increase of electricity imports. Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to the regional and city authorities of Kharkiv for their responsible approach in organizing the work of the energy sector under emergency circumstances.

This meeting underscores the critical importance of coordination between central and local authorities in tackling the energy problems confronting the country during winter conditions. The establishment of the government task force in Kyiv signals the administration's intent to take direct responsibility for the situation, which could help improve energy infrastructure and provide necessary support to the population. These measures are vital against the backdrop of mounting challenges in the energy sphere, which could have serious implications for social stability and the economy as a whole.
