Meeting on emergency circumstances in the energy sector

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting on January 14 regarding emergency circumstances in the energy sector, particularly in Kyiv, and announced the establishment of a headquarters to coordinate the situation. The main goal of the meeting was to discuss the current issues in the energy sector that arose due to Russian strikes and worsening weather conditions.

During the meeting, it was decided to introduce a state of emergency in Ukraine's energy sector. The first Vice Prime Minister, the Minister of Energy of Ukraine, was appointed as the head of the operations. One of the key decisions was to maximize the deregulation of the processes for connecting backup energy equipment, which is expected to facilitate a quicker restoration of energy resources.

Decisions Made

  • Introduction of a state of emergency in Ukraine's energy sector.
  • Increasing the volume of electricity imports to Ukraine to ensure stability in electricity supply.
  • Reviewing the rules regarding curfew.
  • Increasing the number of Points of Unbreakability in Kyiv.

Volodymyr Zelensky noted that the consequences of Russian strikes and worsening weather conditions are serious. He also thanked everyone involved and working at 100% efficiency. The President emphasized the importance of coordinated and synchronized work of state institutions, business, and all levels of local authorities in emergency situations.

The importance of coordination between state agencies and the private sector is critical for overcoming crisis moments. Increasing electricity imports and deregulating the processes for connecting backup capacities can become important steps to ensure the energy stability of the country in the near future.
