Combat Operations Under Review
On July 18, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Pavlo Palisa held a conference call with corps commanders to assess ongoing fighting in the Sloviansk, Pokrovsk, Oleksandrivka sectors and the Kharkiv region. A key concern raised during the meeting was the critical lack of long-range weaponry needed to make military operations effective.
Those who joined the president via the call included:
- Brigadier General Dmytro Voloshyn, commander of the 8th Airborne Assault Corps;
- Major General Artem Bohomolov, commander of the 10th Army Corps;
- Brigadier General Oleksii Maistrenko, commander of the 11th Army Corps;
- Brigadier General Yevhen Lasiichuk, commander of the 7th Rapid Reaction Corps of the Airborne Assault Forces;
- Brigadier General Sviatoslav Zaiets, commander of the 20th Army Corps;
- Brigadier General Yaroslav Sydorov, commander of the 17th Army Corps.
The commanders reported on the nature of the fighting in their respective areas. They also discussed a fair personnel distribution program for combat brigades, which has been operational since December. Key topics included weapons deliveries, troop rotations, protecting Ukrainian supply lines, and dismantling Russian logistics. President Zelenskyy stressed the urgent need to equip the front line with long-range artillery.
“We need more long-range artillery—155-caliber shells,” he stated.
Additionally, the meeting identified extra assets for mid-strike capabilities, seen as crucial for successful operations. Supplying ground robotic systems (GRS) was also prioritized, as these can significantly boost battlefield effectiveness.
“This is an obvious priority for the troops, and deliveries must increase,” the president emphasized.
