Special Staff Meeting
A dedicated session of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff was convened following consultations with corps commanders. For the first time, a direct dialogue was established between weapons and equipment producers, corps commanders, and representatives from the Defense Ministry, Finance Ministry, and special services. The primary focus of the meeting was addressing practical battlefield needs, bottlenecks in supply chains, procurement and funding issues, and contracts for drones, next-generation missile systems (NGMS), and long-range artillery shells. Participants agreed to institutionalize this format as a recurring event, coordinated jointly by the Ministry of Defense and the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC).
Participants and Key Topics
Those attending the meeting included:
- The commander of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces;
- Commanders of the 10th, 11th, and 19th Army Corps;
- Commanders of the Khartia and Azov Corps.
Representatives from Ukraine's emerging defense sector were also present. Discussions emphasized issues related to all types of drones, next-generation missile systems, and long-range artillery shells, while concerns were raised over persistent supply and funding challenges.
Additionally, the meeting reviewed specific defect rates in delivered equipment. Tasks were assigned to Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and diplomatic channels. Air defense (AD) matters were also on the agenda. The following day, further meetings with other corps commanders are scheduled to continue addressing these topics.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated: 'Ukraine must enter August as strong as possible and prepare for various scenarios and Russia's actions in the fall.'
He also expressed gratitude to all military personnel, emphasizing: 'I thank every warrior and every unit defending our positions and destroying Russian forces.'
This meeting marks a significant step in aligning efforts between the military, government, and defense manufacturers, potentially boosting the efficiency of supplying Ukraine's Armed Forces with critical resources. Establishing a regular format for such discussions could accelerate the resolution of logistical bottlenecks, which is vital given the current security environment. The president's call for readiness against possible Russian moves underscores the severity of the threat and Ukraine's determination to respond proactively.
In light of ongoing discussions about defense capabilities, it is crucial to note the recent agreement between Zelenskyy and Rutte regarding the enhancement of Ukraine’s air defense.
