Meeting Chaired by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy convened a meeting with top military officials, diplomats, and government representatives to address critical components of the nation's strategic action plan. The discussions centered on strengthening air defense systems, exploring new avenues for defense cooperation, and preparing for confidential diplomatic negotiations. Emphasizing the significance of these efforts, Zelenskyy stated:

“We are getting ready for important talks — no public details for now.” — Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Key Outcomes of the Meeting

The first segment of the meeting focused on the diplomatic track. Ukraine maintains daily contact with aides to the U.S. president and European leaders. The president's office conducted a review of prior commitments regarding the delivery of air defense systems. A top priority is securing additional Patriot and SAMP/T batteries, which can intercept Russian ballistic and hypersonic missiles. Plans are also underway to finalize bilateral agreements on joint funding, development, and supply of unmanned systems. Separately, a Drone Deal with the European Union is being considered, which would integrate Ukrainian drone manufacturing into Europe's defense-industrial base and attract investments worth billions.

The second major topic involved continued efforts to bring Ukrainian citizens home. The president stressed the need to advance the humanitarian track and facilitate exchanges of prisoners of war and civilians. He instructed relevant agencies to engage international partners to intensify negotiation processes with the aggressor nation.

The third area addressed during the meeting concerned the energy sector. Zelenskyy announced that new decisions would be made to bolster energy infrastructure. Notably, Ukraine's long-range practical sanctions program continues to undermine the economic and logistical backbone of Russia's war machine. Recently, Ukrainian drones struck an oil industry facility in Armavir, Krasnodar Krai, Russia. The operation in Armavir was carried out by special forces from the Security Service of Ukraine.

This meeting highlights Ukraine's intensified military and diplomatic efforts to bolster its defense capabilities and secure international support. Improving air defense effectiveness and forging new partnerships are crucial steps amid ongoing aggression. Attracting foreign investment into the defense industry and advancing humanitarian initiatives also reflect Ukraine's drive to integrate into the global defense sector and work actively to bring its people home.

As discussions on air defense intensify, President Zelenskyy has underscored the urgency of these initiatives, reflecting a broader strategy for national security. In a related development, the recent emphasis on air defense systems has prompted Zelenskyy to reach out to international leaders, including a notable correspondence with former U.S. President Trump.
