Agreements with the USA on Security and Restoration of Ukraine
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky revealed details of the agreements with US President Donald Trump regarding security guarantees and the economic package for the restoration of Ukraine. The meeting between the leaders took place in 2023, where important aspects of supporting Ukraine in the context of the ongoing war were discussed.
Zelensky reported that security guarantees for Ukraine have already been confirmed by Trump and will soon be ratified by a vote in the US Congress. These guarantees have a term of 15 years with the possibility of extension. The President of Ukraine expressed a desire for the guarantees to last even longer — 30, 40, or even 50 years.
“I told him that we have been at war for over a decade,” Zelensky noted.
Preparation for Future Meetings and Economic Support
In addition, preparations are underway for a meeting of national security advisors, which will take place in the coming days. A summit of European leaders with Ukraine in the format of 'Coalition of the Willing Plus' is also scheduled. In January 2023, a meeting with Trump and European leaders will be held to discuss further steps in cooperation.
According to the agreements, Ukraine will receive the first 100 billion dollars over the next two years in equal installments, which will be used for reconstruction or defense of the country.
“We have currently agreed with the Americans that we will have security guarantees that will be supported by the US Congress,” Zelensky summarized.
These agreements indicate an activation of international support for Ukraine in the context of the ongoing war, as well as Kyiv's aspiration to obtain durable security guarantees. An important component of these agreements is economic support, which will allow Ukraine not only to restore its infrastructure but also to strengthen its defense capabilities. In the context of the global situation, such support could have a significant impact on Ukraine's strategic plans in the coming years.
