The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and the American leader Donald Trump discussed ways to resolve the conflict and protect the skies over Ukraine. The conversation took place on September 4, 2025, after the meeting of European leaders in Paris.
European leaders and representatives of international organizations participated in the conversation. Zelensky emphasized economic pressure as a means to achieve peace. The President noted that strengthening pressure on Russia could help bring an end to the conflict. French President Emmanuel Macron stressed that if Russia refuses to engage in peace talks, additional sanctions will be imposed.
'We discussed various options, and the most important thing is pressure, to force an end to the war with strong measures, including economic ones. The key to peace is depriving the Russian war machine of money, depriving it of resources,' Zelensky highlighted.
'As long as there is no peace, Ukrainians should not live under the threat of Russian attacks. Russian missiles and drones should not take lives,' Zelensky noted.
In the absence of progress in peace talks, the parties agreed to continue contacts in this format to ensure peace and security in Ukraine.
During the phone conversation, Zelensky and Trump discussed key issues related to resolving the conflict in eastern Ukraine, allowing efforts to be directed towards achieving the long-awaited peace in the region.
