Ukrainian President Meets with NATO Secretary General
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte during the Munich Security Conference. Their talks centered on the PURL (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List) program, a framework for procuring air defense missiles for Ukraine. PURL is a funding mechanism that enables European nations to purchase American-made weaponry directly from U.S. manufacturers. This initiative is part of a broader Western effort to help Ukraine defend its skies against sustained aerial attacks.
During the meeting, Zelenskyy emphasized the critical importance of the PURL program for Ukraine's defense capabilities. He stated:
'With NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, we discussed the implementation and further development of the PURL program. Ukraine highly values the contribution of every nation. We count on the continued support of this initiative, which enables the purchase of missiles for air defense systems.'
The President also highlighted the necessity of cooperating with partners to enhance Ukraine's ability to protect its citizens and to establish joint defense enterprises in Europe.
Military Aid for Ukraine
Separately, at a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (the Ramstein format), partners confirmed military aid for Ukraine totaling 38 billion euros. Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude for this support, noting:
'Thank you, Mark, for the meeting and your constant support. I am grateful for the productive meeting in the Ramstein format—partners confirmed the allocation of 38 billion euros in military aid to Ukraine. And this is very significant.'
This assistance is critically important for ensuring Ukraine's defensive readiness amid escalating threats.
President Zelenskyy's meeting with the NATO Secretary General took place against a backdrop of pressing regional security challenges, underscoring the importance of international backing for Ukraine. The PURL program and the confirmed 38 billion euros in military aid demonstrate the growing role of Western partners in strengthening Ukraine's defense, which is vital in the context of the ongoing war. This cooperation is likely to shape Ukraine's security trajectory for years to come.
