Presidential Dialogue: Zelensky and Macron Discuss Key Issues

As Ukraine braces for a harsh winter with Russian strikes on energy infrastructure, President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke by phone with French President Emmanuel Macron. He briefed Macron on his meetings at the White House and the U.S. Senate, emphasizing the need to seize every chance to advance peace. The two leaders coordinated their responses to current challenges.

Zelensky expressed gratitude for France's continued support and readiness to assist during this difficult period. They also discussed winter preparations, particularly air defense packages and energy sector aid. France committed to working on solutions to help Ukraine.

Mutual Support and Cooperation in a Time of Crisis

Macron informed Zelensky about large wildfires in France. In response, Zelensky offered French authorities assistance, noting that Ukrainian specialists could join firefighting efforts.

"Ukraine is always ready to help those who have helped us throughout these years of struggle against Russian aggression," Zelensky said.

Zelensky then turned to the critical shortage of air defense missiles. He made an urgent appeal to U.S. President Donald Trump for an emergency winter package of Patriot interceptors, warning that Ukraine's stocks are nearly exhausted. Without these interceptors, he said, effective defense against ballistic attacks is impossible. He noted that the recent Russian strikes on Kyiv succeeded partly due to this shortfall.

"Without solving the problem before winter, Russian attacks could destroy power plants, leaving millions of Ukrainians without heating and creating a humanitarian crisis," emphasized the Ukrainian president.

Separately, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have agreed to make their first visit to Kyiv, a move that could open new diplomatic avenues between the two countries.

This call between Zelensky and Macron underscores the importance of international support for Ukraine amid ongoing Russian aggression and highlights the urgent need for winter preparations to ensure energy stability. France’s willingness to assist with the wildfires demonstrates mutual solidarity, potentially strengthening bilateral ties and providing additional backing for Ukraine during a critical time.

As Ukraine faces an escalating threat from Russian strikes, the urgency of securing military support becomes ever more critical. In this context, Zelensky’s appeal for additional missile supplies highlights the dire situation.
