Ukrainian President's Official Visit to Syria

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made an official visit to Syria, where bilateral and trilateral talks were held in Damascus with representatives from Syria and Turkey. These discussions covered critical issues of security, economics, energy, and post-war reconstruction. This diplomatic outreach comes as Ukraine seeks to build international partnerships and address regional stability beyond its ongoing conflict.

During the visit, Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a bilateral meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa. The negotiations addressed security, defense, and the regional situation, including events surrounding Iran. Participants also focused on energy and infrastructure cooperation, as well as matters of food security. Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of joint opportunities to enhance food security in the region and conveyed Ukraine's readiness to support stability and development.

“An important day of negotiations in Damascus – today featured both a bilateral format with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and talks involving our teams, and there was a trilateral conversation between Ukraine, Syria, and Turkey. We are building new relationships, new opportunities, and expanding our work for the sake of security,” noted Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

He also stressed that the talks covered measures to overcome the consequences of war, as well as the negotiation process concerning Russia's war against Ukraine.

“We managed to discuss everything: from security and defense issues and the situation in the region through all the events surrounding Iran, to energy and infrastructure cooperation between our countries. We will also continue our work on food security,” added the Ukrainian President.

He expressed gratitude to the Syrians for their support and underscored that Ukraine was one of the first countries to support Syria after the fall of the Assad regime.

“We are ready to continue supporting stability and development. We will work even more together so that our peoples, our countries are stronger and so that our economies can also become stronger. Thank you!” summarized Volodymyr Zelenskyy, highlighting the importance of further cooperation between the countries.
