Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy Meets with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda

On January 25, 2026, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda during a visit to Lithuania. The key topics of discussion were:

  • Support for Ukraine's energy grid;
  • Military cooperation;
  • The diplomatic process underway in Abu Dhabi.

This visit was notable as Zelenskyy marked his 48th birthday, his fifth since the onset of the full-scale war. Lithuania has been a steadfast supporter of Ukraine since Russia's invasion in 2022.

Lithuania has decided to provide Ukraine with nearly one hundred generators, a crucial form of support for Ukrainian cities and communities. During the meeting, Zelenskyy stated:

'In my meeting with President Gitanas Nausėda, we primarily discussed support for Ukraine's energy system. Russia attacks our energy infrastructure daily. I informed Gitanas about this and also about Ukraine's needs for energy resilience and strengthening air defense. Thank you for the support: Lithuania has already decided to help Ukrainian cities and communities by providing nearly one hundred generators.' Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Furthermore, matters of military cooperation were discussed, including joint defense projects. Zelenskyy also expressed support for the PURL initiative and cooperation within the SAFE program, and discussed Lithuania's proposals to open a weapons export platform in Vilnius. He added:

'We separately discussed military cooperation, joint defense projects, and Lithuania's proposals to open a weapons export platform in Vilnius, support for the PURL initiative, and cooperation within the SAFE program.' Volodymyr Zelenskyy

The outlined discussion topics highlight the intensifying collaboration between Ukraine and Lithuania amid the ongoing challenges Ukraine faces due to Russian aggression. Zelenskyy's visit to Lithuania underscores the importance of international support in ensuring the country's energy stability and security.

This visit by President Zelenskyy represents a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations between Ukraine and Lithuania, particularly in the context of the support Lithuania provides Ukraine in its struggle against Russian aggression. The provision of generators is critically important for ensuring energy stability in Ukraine, and military cooperation can help bolster the country's defense capabilities. Given the current challenges, such meetings can foster not only stronger relations but also greater international solidarity with Ukraine.
