Zelenskyy's Address at the Munich Security Conference

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy delivered a stark warning at the Munich Security Conference, highlighting the rapid evolution of drone warfare and a concerning slowdown in international assistance. He detailed how Shahed-type drones are now being equipped with jet engines and can be guided by an operator in real-time, signaling a significant escalation in threat. This development underscores the growing danger of a protracted war, as the aggressor gains access to more sophisticated resources, thereby complicating the entire security landscape.

An Urgent Call for Action

Zelenskyy stressed that anyone who desires security and peace must recognize the critical need for urgent action.

“The longer the war lasts, the more resources the aggressor acquires, the more dangerous the consequences become, the more perilous the evolution of weapons and the war itself, and the more dangerous the evolution of Putin himself,” he stated.
These remarks reflect the president's deep concern over the conflict's duration and its corrosive impact on regional stability. His speech comes at a pivotal moment for Western support, as political debates in allied capitals threaten the continuity of military aid.

Amid these international efforts, former U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly urged Zelenskyy not to delay in reaching a peace agreement with Russia. Trump has hinted at the necessity of territorial compromises, particularly regarding Donbas, and expressed a hope for elections in Ukraine this spring. In a related diplomatic move, two parallel rounds of talks involving the Trump administration are scheduled for February 17th in Geneva, which could significantly influence the future trajectory of the situation.

President Zelenskyy's address underscores the critical juncture at which Ukraine finds itself and the vital importance of sustained international backing amidst escalating conflict. The aggressor's growing capabilities, especially in deploying cutting-edge technologies, pose a threat not only to Ukraine but to European security as a whole. The upcoming Geneva negotiations may prove decisive in shaping the course of events and warrant close observation from the international community.
