President Zelensky Meets IMF Managing Director in New York

During his visit to New York, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held talks with Kristalina Georgieva, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The discussions centered on financial assistance for Ukraine and the country’s legislative obligations to its international partners. This meeting took place as part of Zelensky’s participation in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, where he is scheduled to hold around 20 meetings with global leaders and U.S. lawmakers.

Securing Financial Support and Legislative Progress

President Zelensky expressed gratitude for the IMF’s support programs, which play a crucial role in stabilizing Ukraine’s economy amid ongoing security challenges caused by Russian aggression. He highlighted the importance of IMF macro-financial aid in addressing the evolving threat posed by Russia’s changing airstrike tactics aimed at crippling both business and state functions.

Zelensky and Georgieva emphasized the significance of passing key legislation tied to Ukraine’s commitments with international partners. The Ukrainian parliament has already approved some necessary measures, with the remainder expected to be enacted by year-end.

“The IMF’s assistance will help secure the funds vital for Ukraine’s financial resilience next year. I appreciate this decision. Ultimately, every economic support step is about ensuring fair protection for our people,” Zelensky stated.

As part of the visit, a new Drone Deal is set to be signed, alongside discussions on further strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities. Zelensky’s agenda also includes meetings with the U.S. President, European leaders, and members of Congress. This visit aims to bolster international backing for Ukraine amid ongoing aggression and to secure resources necessary for economic recovery.
