Ukraine’s President and Denmark’s Prime Minister Confer in New York
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held talks with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in New York, addressing critical issues such as strengthening the European Union’s sanctions regime against Russia, Ukraine’s financial resilience, countering Russian attacks, and advancing joint defense manufacturing. This discussion took place ahead of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, where Zelensky arrived to participate in scheduled events.
During the meeting, Zelensky stressed the urgent need to intensify sanctions on Russia, emphasizing that
“each name on the sanctions list is deliberate: every individual is responsible for why this war started and continues, and why our people die daily”(Volodymyr Zelensky). The leaders also explored strategies to address Ukraine’s budget shortfall and tackled the challenge of Russian assaults, including defenses against the Shahed drone attacks.
Looking Ahead
They further discussed plans for collaborative defense production, including the establishment of new manufacturing facilities. Zelensky’s visit to New York includes approximately 20 meetings, featuring:
- talks with the U.S. President,
- engagements with European leaders,
- and sessions with members of the U.S. Congress.
Additionally, a new drone agreement is expected to be signed, alongside discussions on enhancing Ukraine’s air defense capabilities.
The President expressed gratitude to Denmark for its steadfast support of Ukraine’s sanctions stance, highlighting the crucial role of international solidarity amid today’s security challenges.
