Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his gratitude for the adoption of a 'strong' sanctions package against Russia by the European Union. These measures are aimed at key sectors of the Russian war economy, such as revenues from energy resources, finance, and the military-industrial complex.
«This is an important step that will increase pressure on the Russian military machine and have a tangible effect. We also welcome work on using revenues from frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine. This is very important for our defense and resilience, and it will also contribute to our recovery», - noted Zelensky.
He also called on other partners to strengthen these steps to force Russia into peace and accountability. He expressed gratitude to the European Union for its leadership and unity.
The European Commission has approved the sanctions package; however, EU member states still need to agree on these measures. In addition, the possible quick exit from Russian gas in the European Union by 2027 is being discussed.
