Ukraine is imposing sanctions – who is under restrictions? The President of the country, Volodymyr Zelensky, signed two decrees on sanctions on August 23. The first decree concerns the synchronization of Ukrainian sanctions with measures from Canada, while the second covers 28 individuals from various countries supporting Russia. This is reported by the publication 'Glavkom' citing the press service of the Head of State.
According to Decree No. 613/2025, the Ukrainian government has aligned its sanctions with Canada's, which were implemented this year against 139 individuals assisting the Russian war. 'Together with our partners, we are also preparing a decision to harmonize Ukrainian sanctions in the jurisdictions of our partners,' Zelensky stated.
By Decree No. 612/2025, Mikhail Putin – a Russian businessman and cousin of President Vladimir Putin – has been added to the list of individuals subject to sanctions. He is the Deputy Chairman of the Board of the insurance company 'SOGAZ' and Deputy Chairman of the Board of JSC 'Gazprom.'
The decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine to impose sanctions is in response to the assistance by 28 citizens of Russia, Ukraine, and Iran in maintaining the Russian occupation regime on the territory of Ukraine. 'All who cooperate with the Russian occupiers will bear responsibility for their actions against Ukraine and Ukrainians,' Zelensky emphasized.
