Ukraine's President Speaks on Peace Prospects
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed his willingness to halt military operations along the current frontlines and pursue diplomatic solutions, provided that Russia ends its offensive actions. In an interview with CBC News, Zelensky emphasized that if Russia agrees to a ceasefire, it should be unconditional:
“Yes, no conditions, just a ceasefire and negotiations.”He also did not rule out meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss peace, acknowledging the personal difficulty of such a meeting but affirming its importance:
“Facing Putin won’t be the best day of my life. But I will do it for the sake of advancing peace.”
Increasing Economic Pressure on Russia
Zelensky highlighted the critical role of the United States in intensifying economic sanctions against Russia to curb its capacity to continue the war. He stressed that
- “they need to do this, primarily not just for our sake.”
Diplomatic communications between Ukraine and the US remain active, with Washington already taking steps in this direction.
