Statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Russia has lost its opportunity to negotiate a favorable end to the war. In his address, he emphasized that Ukraine will continue to escalate strikes on Russian territory, while also expressing a willingness to freeze hostilities in order to pursue genuine diplomatic talks. Zelensky also confirmed his readiness to meet personally with Russian President Vladimir Putin in any format. Leaders from the United Kingdom, France, and Germany have backed Ukraine's call for an immediate ceasefire.

Zelensky noted that over the course of the full-scale war, Ukraine has produced a substantial number of drones and missiles.

“During several years of war and massive attacks, we learned, studied, and produced. We have manufactured many different drones and missiles. We do not yet have ballistic missiles, but we are on the path—we are very close,” the Ukrainian president stated.
He also stressed that
“this is our response, and our answer to the fact that we will not simply die in silence. We will respond and grow stronger every day.”

In Zelensky’s view, Vladimir Putin lost the chance to end the war on advantageous terms after rejecting a new round of peace talks. Kyiv is receiving conflicting signals from Moscow regarding the Kremlin's willingness to negotiate.

“It doesn’t matter. What matters is stopping this as quickly as possible,” Zelensky said, underscoring the importance of a ceasefire. He added that “freezing and staying where we are means giving the people of Ukraine more opportunities to save their children and bring back their soldiers.”

Kyiv and its European allies believe that Putin is under increasing pressure due to heavy losses in the Russian army and a weakening of Russia’s air defense systems. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz have voiced support for Ukraine’s demand for an immediate ceasefire. This backing highlights growing international solidarity on ending the conflict in Ukraine.

The situation surrounding the war in Ukraine remains tense, with both sides continuing to prepare for potential escalations. The support from Western leaders underscores the importance of the international coalition backing Ukraine, which is clearly striving for regional stability. As Ukraine now highlights its achievements in defense technology, the issue of peace talks becomes increasingly relevant, with both sides seeking ways to reduce the conflict and restore peace.

In light of Zelensky's recent statements on the war, it's important to consider his previous appeals for peace. An open letter from the Ukrainian president urged Putin to seek a resolution to the conflict, highlighting ongoing efforts to establish a ceasefire and engage in meaningful dialogue. This context adds depth to the current situation as both leaders navigate the complexities of negotiations.
