Ukrainian President’s Statement

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that ending the war in Ukraine is no longer the United States’ top concern. He made this remark during a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. According to Zelenskyy, Washington’s attention has shifted, as Iran now takes precedence over Ukraine in the American administration’s agenda.

“Unfortunately, we are not the focus today. In my view, Iran is the number one issue for the US, and only after that comes Ukraine.” — Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Negotiations and Support

Zelenskyy also expects a US negotiating team to visit Ukraine soon. He expressed openness to any format of talks to end the war, including a potential meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

“We are in contact with the American side regarding our negotiations. Unfortunately, we are in line among these wars.” — Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Meanwhile, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte confirmed that deliveries of American interceptor missiles to Ukraine are ongoing.

Zelenskyy’s comments highlight a realignment of US foreign policy priorities, with Ukraine slipping behind other geopolitical crises like the situation in Iran. This shift could complicate Ukraine’s efforts to secure a diplomatic resolution to the conflict, given the crucial role of American support. However, continued military aid from the US indicates that, while priorities are evolving, strategic backing for Ukraine remains significant for NATO and its international partners.

As the US reassesses its foreign policy priorities, Zelenskyy has indicated a willingness to engage directly with Putin, which could play a crucial role in shaping the future of negotiations. This potential shift in dialogue underscores the complexities of the ongoing conflict and highlights the importance of diplomatic efforts amidst changing international dynamics.
