The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, urged Europe to stop importing Russian oil and gas, emphasizing that every euro received by Russia for its energy resources goes towards conducting war against Ukraine.
In a statement on social media on September 27, the Ukrainian leader noted: 'Europe must stop any import of Russian oil and gas. All this money that Russia spends is solely on war. We do not see an increase in social support in Russia, which means all this money is spent on war.'
Zelensky explained that energy sanctions would lead to a shortage of funds for war in Russia, which could result in a decrease in social support for Russian citizens and, accordingly, instability in the country.
Furthermore, Zelensky stressed the need for a comprehensive approach to sanctions, including halting the purchase of Russian energy resources, blocking the shadow fleet, and banning Russia from trading various goods. He also emphasized that all sectors that support the Russian economy must be subjected to sanctions.
Zelensky called on Europe to act together with Ukraine and the United States to jointly stop financing the war by Russia and compel it to change its policy.
