Zelensky and Macron in New York: new sanctions against Russia and frozen assets

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN. This meeting was highlighted by the Office of the President.



According to the Office, the leaders discussed the escalation of Russia's actions towards European countries, including instances of drone sightings in Poland, Romania, and Denmark, as well as fighter jets in Estonia. They also emphasized the need to strengthen Ukraine's air defense, especially considering the increase in Russian shelling.



The presidents also discussed tightening sanctions against Russia, particularly in the context of the shadow tanker fleet. Special attention was given to the possibility of using frozen Russian assets for the benefit of Ukraine. Zelensky and Macron discussed specific tools for implementing this plan.


The meeting addressed current security issues in the region and cooperation between Ukraine and France in the context of countering the Russian threat.
