Address by Volodymyr Zelenskyy

In his video address on July 5, 2026, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that Western hesitation in delivering aid to Ukraine—especially missiles for air defense systems—is encouraging Russia to keep fighting. He called on the United States and European nations to speed up the transfer of Patriot system missiles, emphasizing that any postponement of these supplies directly results in casualties among Ukrainian soldiers and civilians.

“Every delay in supplying missiles for our air defense, for the Patriots, means lost lives and gives Russia the green light to continue its war,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated.

Zelenskyy also highlighted the impact of long-range sanctions against Russia, which he said are now showing results. “We are now delivering daily results from our long-range sanctions against Russia,” he added. The president underscored the importance of making occupied territories—particularly Crimea—feel the full weight of the occupation, aiming to make it as unbearable as possible for the enemy. “And we are doing just that,” Zelenskyy concluded.

War Context and International Support

As the war continues, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski believes the conflict’s outcome hinges on Vladimir Putin’s will. Meanwhile, Alexander Lukashenko has suggested the war could end by late 2026. Vladimir Putin shared his own views on the conflict after a visit to Kazakhstan. As of July 5, 2026, the war has been ongoing for 1,593 days.

Zelenskyy’s address underscores how crucial international support remains for Ukraine amid the protracted conflict. His urgent call for rapid delivery of military aid—especially the Patriot system—reflects the critical situation on the front lines. At the same time, the visible effects of sanctions on Russia may signal a gradual shift in the aggressor’s economic stability, potentially affecting its ability to sustain combat operations.

In light of Zelenskyy's urgent appeal for military support, it's crucial to examine the implications of unfulfilled promises regarding missile deliveries. Recently, the president visited a strike site in Kyiv and expressed concerns over the missiles that were not received, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by Ukraine amidst the conflict. This situation further underscores the necessity for timely international assistance to protect Ukrainian lives.
