Reports started to appear in the Ukrainian information space about the supposed impracticality of Ukraine's rapid Euro-integration. People's deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak stated that such rhetoric could be dangerous for the state's strategic course towards joining the EU.

According to the politician, similar messages appear not only in anonymous Telegram channels but also during closed meetings with international partners.

Ukraine's Euro-integration: why a new discussion has arisen

Yaroslav Zheleznyak notes that Ukraine has made significant progress towards the European Union in recent years. In particular, the country has obtained candidate status and has begun to fulfill the requirements for further negotiations.

However, according to him, recently there have been statements in the public space suggesting that rapid integration into the EU is supposedly not critical for Ukraine.

The politician suggests that such rhetoric may have arisen after the European Union emphasized the need to fulfill all reforms before accession.

Ukraine's Accession to the EU: what reforms are necessary

According to the deputy, for further progress in negotiations, Ukraine must fulfill a number of requirements related to reforms in the sphere of justice and anti-corruption policy.

Among the key steps:

  • strengthening the independence of anti-corruption bodies

  • reforming the law enforcement system

  • changes in the judicial system

  • fulfilling the European Commission's requirements regarding the rule of law

Zheleznyak emphasized that support for the European course remains one of the key ideas of Ukrainian society.

«Any politician who goes against the Euro-integration course risks losing voter support», — noted the people's deputy.

Let us remind you that the Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Taras Kachka stated during his speech about the possibility of signing an agreement on accession to the EU in 2027.
