Earthquake in Turkey: 1 dead, dozens injured and destruction in several provinces

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 occurred in Turkey, with its epicenter located in the Sindidji area of Balıkesir at a depth of 11 kilometers. According to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), as a result of the earthquake, one person died and dozens were injured. This was reported by 'Glavcom' citing TRT Haber.


The tremors were felt in many provinces, including Izmir, Kütahya, Yalova, Istanbul, Manisa, and others.



Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya reported that an 81-year-old man, who was rescued from the rubble in Balıkesir, could not be saved. As a result of the earthquake in this area, 29 people were injured.


According to a statement from the Manisa governorship, six more citizens sustained minor injuries in this province. Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu clarified that four injured are receiving treatment in hospitals, but their lives are not in danger.


According to the Interior Minister, 16 buildings were destroyed in 68 rural areas of Sindidji. There are also reports of damage to houses in several areas of Manisa.



AFAD registered 84 aftershocks, 7 of which had a magnitude of 4 or higher. All relevant services and ministries were placed on high alert.


Immediately after the earthquake, Turkey's Disaster Response Plan (TAMP) was activated. Representatives of all disaster response teams gathered at the AFAD Center for coordination.


Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu confirmed that there are no disruptions in communication, and Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş reported that psychosocial support teams have already begun their work.


It is reminded that the head of the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs Ali Yerlikaya reported on the consequences of the 6.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred on August 10. 



During the earthquake in Turkey, one person died, and dozens of people were injured due to the impact. Provinces across the country felt the tremors, and authorities took urgent measures to assist the victims. Services expressed readiness and activated the disaster response plan, while medical workers and psychologists are providing support to families and victims.
