In July, the number of casualties among civilians in Ukraine reached a new three-month peak, reports the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU). 286 people died, and 1,388 were injured, which is the highest figure since May 2022.

'For the second consecutive month, the number of civilian casualties in Ukraine has reached a three-month record. In the first three months following the start of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, there were more deaths and injuries than in the last month' - said the head of HRMMU, Daniil Bell.

Confirmed losses among civilians were reported in 18 of the 24 regions of Ukraine. Almost 40% of casualties resulted from long-range weapon actions, which were most affected in the capital.

The impact of drones and aerial bombs on the number of civilian casualties

Drones of close range have become the second most influential cause of civilian deaths, leading to an increase in the number of casualties compared to last year. Air raids conducted by Russian forces resulted in the largest number of deaths among the civilian population, particularly in a correctional colony and a residential building.
