Harpy's New 'Vampire' Drone
The Harpy unit, part of Ukraine's 9th Separate Unmanned Systems Brigade, has taken delivery of an exclusive 'Vampire' unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) produced by the Ukrainian defense-tech company SkyFall. This drone, painted a vivid pink and adorned with purple beads and rhinestones, is designed for frontline combat missions. The Harpy unit is the first all-female formation within Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces, operating on the Pokrovsk and Kharkiv fronts.
The Vampire is a Ukrainian-made bomber drone capable of dropping up to 15 kilograms of ordnance, including mortar shells, shaped-charge grenades, high-explosive, and thermobaric bombs. In 2025 alone, the Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted 2.5 million frontline missions using Vampire drones, which Russian Federation troops have nicknamed 'Baba Yaga'. The use of such drones has become a cornerstone of Ukraine's asymmetric warfare strategy against a larger adversary.
Unit Commander's Reaction and the Drone's Significance
The commander of the Harpy unit, Daria DShK, expressed her admiration for the new equipment:
“We knew a pink Vampire was coming, but we didn't expect it to be this vibrant. SkyFall put their heart into it. They paid attention to every detail, even making the controller and interface pink. The girls and I discussed it and decided this Vampire will be our unit's talisman. It will destroy the enemy with elegance.” - Daria DShK
Servicewomen from the Harpy unit also highlighted the importance of morale and motivation:
“When there are people who not only help liberate our country but also support our morale—it motivates and inspires us to give our all.”
Furthermore, unit representatives noted that the women prove daily that professionalism has no gender, demonstrating exceptional precision in destroying enemy logistics and personnel.
Thus, the new Vampire drone becomes not only a technical asset for combat tasks but also a symbol of female strength and professionalism within the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The acquisition of the Vampire UAV by the Harpy unit underscores the growing role of women in Ukraine's military structures, particularly in modern combat conditions. The refinement of technologies like drones allows for the optimization of military operations and increased effectiveness, which is critically important on the frontline. The emphasis on the drone's aesthetic aspect also highlights the importance of morale and support among servicewomen, which can positively influence their motivation and mission performance.
