Oleksandr Pyshchur Signs with Girona
Spanish club Girona has officially announced the signing of Ukrainian forward Oleksandr Pyshchur, who previously played for Hungarian side Győr. The 21-year-old has inked a deal running through the summer of 2031. While the transfer fee has not been officially disclosed, renowned insider Fabrizio Romano reported it to be €1 million. Pyshchur becomes the fourth Ukrainian player on Girona's roster, joining:
- winger Viktor Tsygankov,
- striker Vladyslav Vanat,
- goalkeeper Vladyslav Krapyvtsov.
Stats and Achievements
During the 2025/26 season, Pyshchur made 36 appearances at the club level, netting 5 goals and providing 2 assists. Transfermarkt values him at €350,000. He also represents Ukraine's youth national team, having played four matches and scored once at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, where the team reached the Round of 16 before falling 0-1 to Spain. In November, Pyshchur made his debut for the U-21 side, featuring in European Championship qualifiers against Turkey and a friendly against Albania.
Last season, Girona finished 19th in La Liga and was relegated to the second division (Segunda División). Fellow Ukrainian Viktor Tsygankov has decided to leave the club, submitting an official request to consider offers. With his contract expiring in one year, Tsygankov is unwilling to play in the Segunda. In the 2025/26 campaign, he appeared in 34 matches, scoring 7 goals and recording 5 assists, with a market value of €15 million.
The acquisition of Oleksandr Pyshchur signals Girona's intent to strengthen the squad following a disappointing season and relegation to the Segunda.
The young Ukrainian forward holds developmental promise that could benefit the club in upcoming seasons. At the same time, the situation with Viktor Tsygankov highlights the challenges facing the team, as ambitious players may seek new opportunities elsewhere to continue competing at the highest level.
As Girona seeks to rebuild after a challenging season, the situation surrounding Viktor Tsygankov's transfer request adds another layer of complexity. The departure of their star player could significantly impact the team's dynamics, making Pyshchur's arrival even more crucial for Girona's aspirations in the upcoming campaign.
