Collision in Vinnytsia Region Damages Six Coaches of Intercity+ Train

Аварія в Вінницькій області призвела до пошкодження шести вагонів поїзда Інтерсіті+.

Incident at Brailiv Station

A collision occurred on April 18 at Brailiv station in the Vinnytsia region between a private quarry's diesel locomotive and the passenger train 'Intercity+'. The incident resulted in damage to six carriages. To ensure passenger safety, all 576 travelers were transferred to a backup high-speed train that arrived from Kyiv. Oleg Holovashchenko, a representative of Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways), confirmed the completion of the transfer for all passengers.

During the incident, one girl sought medical attention for an acute stress reaction but declined hospitalization. Despite this event, there are no plans to cancel the Kyiv-Przemysl service. An investigation into the collision's circumstances is ongoing, with specialists from Ukrzaliznytsia and Hyundai Rotem examining the damaged train. This incident highlights the operational challenges faced by Ukraine's critical rail network during wartime.

Similar Incidents in Ukraine

This is not an isolated event for Ukraine's railways. On April 2, a truck was involved in an accident with a passenger train near the Kolomak station in the Kharkiv region. Earlier, on March 24, a Russian FPV-drone attacked an electric train on the Slatyne-Kharkiv route, resulting in casualties.

Oleg Holovashchenko commented on the cause, stating that 'the incident occurred due to the fault of the diesel locomotive driver, who proceeded past a stop signal into the path of the passenger Intercity+ train.'

He added that the rescheduled service, train 715 to Przemysl, would be expedited en route and at the border, with every effort made to maintain connections. For passengers at Khmelnytskyi station, 'Iron Snacks' from World Central Kitchen have been prepared.

This collision underscores the critical importance of adhering to railway safety protocols, as such events can have serious consequences for passengers. Given recent accidents and attacks on rail transport in Ukraine, the investigation's findings will be a crucial step in preventing future occurrences. Ukrzaliznytsia continues to work on ensuring safe and comfortable passenger transportation, a vital task under current conditions.

This incident is reminiscent of a recent event in the Dnipropetrovsk region, where effective surveillance measures played a crucial role in averting a potential train disaster. In that case, over 500 commuters were saved from a possible strike, highlighting the importance of monitoring systems in enhancing rail safety.
