Zhytomyr Region Under 35 cm of Snow: How Road Services Fight the Elements
Ukraine continues to face difficult weather conditions, including snow, blizzards, and icy conditions. The situation is particularly severe in the Zhytomyr region, where up to 35 cm of snow fell within a day. In response to these challenges, road services are operating in an intensified mode, ensuring travel on state roads.
To overcome the consequences of the severe weather, 1,244 units of equipment and 1,454 personnel have been mobilized. Road workers are treating roads with anti-ice materials, paying special attention to bridges, inclines, and declines. It is important to note that there have been no traffic stoppages on state roads, ensuring unhindered passage for motorists.
Difficult Sections and Restrictions
Additionally, on some sections, particularly on the M-06 and H-22 highways, temporary restrictions for heavy transport are in place. As Oleksiy Kuleba stated:
"The most difficult situation was in Zhytomyr region. The peak of the cyclone has passed, but work to ensure travel on state roads continues."
Among the most challenging sections are:
- M-06 Kyiv – Chop,
- M-07 Kyiv – Kovel – Yahodyn,
- M-21 Vystupovychy – Zhytomyr – Mohyliv-Podilskyi.
On January 9, snow and wet snow are also expected in Ukraine, so road services will continue their work in an intensified mode to ensure road safety. For additional information, the Agency for Restoration operates a hotline at +380 67 400 60 80.
The situation in Zhytomyr region reflects the general trend in Ukraine towards difficult weather conditions during the winter period. Road services demonstrate responsiveness to the elements, which is critically important for ensuring safety and continuity of transport communications. Given the forecasted snowfall, it is important for motorists to exercise caution on the roads and consider possible travel restrictions.
