Potato prices in Ukraine are becoming a hot topic again. According to Andrey Marushchak, the commercial director of 'Van Dyke Technics', farmers will receive favorable conditions this season, but consumers will have to bear the additional burden. The minimum price for potatoes could reach 20 hryvnias per kilogram, and this is just the cost price of the product. 'In budget stores' - prices will be even higher, the expert noted.
Marushchak predicts a temporary decrease in prices in the autumn: from 15 to 12 hryvnias per kilogram. This is due to the possibility of selling potatoes 'from the field' without storage until the first frosts. However, the main reason for the high prices is the shortage of quality seeds in Ukraine, the expert points out. This factor definitely impacts the final price of the product since quality seed material is expensive and increases the cost of potato cultivation.
Thus, the rise in potato prices in Ukraine could become an unexpected difficulty for consumers this season due to the high cost of seeds and production costs. Price fluctuations are anticipated, particularly a temporary decrease in the autumn period.
