October Marks Russia’s Heaviest Military Losses as Ukraine Liberates Over 96 km²

Жовтень став трагічним етапом для російських військ, адже Україна звільнила понад 96 квадратних кілометрів території.

Unprecedented Russian Casualties and Ukrainian Territorial Gains

October proved to be the deadliest month yet for Russian forces, with total casualties—both killed and severely wounded—reaching 54,400. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that on October 21 alone, Russian troops suffered 2,250 losses. To put these figures into perspective, this is equivalent to the entire population of Russia’s Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, or about nine military parades on Moscow’s Red Square, or the number of passengers that could fill 200 cars of the Moscow metro system.

Ukrainian Defense Forces Push Forward

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s defense forces have made significant advances, reclaiming 96.2 square kilometers of territory in October. This amount exceeds the land seized by Russian occupiers during the same period by 10.4 square kilometers.

"It is crucial that we continue reclaiming what is ours. In October, our Defense Forces liberated 96.2 square kilometers of Ukrainian land—10.4 square kilometers more than the occupiers managed to capture during this time," said President Zelensky.

The Ukrainian leader emphasized that while Russia is incurring heavy losses, Ukraine is holding its ground and steadily regaining control over its territory.

"Russia is losing. We maintain our positions, liberate land, and make each day of this war as costly as possible for the aggressor. To halt these devastating losses, Russia only needs to choose ceasefire and diplomacy," Zelensky stated.

These figures highlight the ongoing intensity of combat between Russia and Ukraine, with Ukraine achieving meaningful territorial recovery. The scale of Russian casualties could significantly affect the conflict’s trajectory, potentially forcing Russia to reconsider its military approach. Ukraine continues to stress the importance of diplomatic efforts as a vital path toward ending the war, which may ultimately shape future developments.
