Sharp Increase for EV Charging in Ukraine

A significant price hike for electric vehicle fast charging took effect in Ukraine in January 2026. This followed a decision by the national energy regulator, the NEURC, to raise the maximum price of electricity for businesses. From late January, charging tariffs jumped by 50%, substantially increasing the cost of running an electric car. This move aligns with broader energy market adjustments in the region.

The cost per kilowatt-hour at many fast-charging hubs has risen from 18–20 UAH to 30–32 UAH. Under the new pricing structure, a standard rate of 29.99 UAH per kWh is now common, directly impacting EV owners' expenses.

Cost Breakdown for Popular EV Models

  • Tesla Model 3 RWD: Consumption of 15 kWh per 100 km, costing 4.50 UAH per km. A full charge now costs approximately 1800 UAH.
  • Nissan Leaf (40 kWh): Consumption of 17 kWh per 100 km, costing 5.10 UAH per km. A full charge totals around 1200 UAH.
  • Volkswagen ID.4 and Kia EV6: With a 77 kWh battery and consumption of 19 kWh per 100 km, the cost is 5.70 UAH per km. A full charge reaches about 2310 UAH.
  • Hyundai Kona Electric: Consumption of 16 kWh per 100 km, costing 4.80 UAH per km. A full charge is roughly 1920 UAH.
  • Renault Zoe: Consumption of 16 kWh per 100 km, costing 4.80 UAH per km. A full charge costs approximately 1560 UAH.

Consequently, the new tariffs have dramatically altered the economics of electric vehicle ownership in Ukraine, potentially reshaping decisions for current and prospective drivers.

The rise in EV charging costs in Ukraine mirrors a wider global trend of increasing energy prices, which could influence the pace of electric vehicle adoption.

This development may lead consumers to reconsider purchasing an electric vehicle and to explore alternative energy sources. Furthermore, the higher operational costs could accelerate the adoption of new technologies within the charging infrastructure and promote greater energy efficiency.
