Attack on the Afipsky Oil Refinery
In the early hours of March 14, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) targeted the Afipsky Oil Refinery and port infrastructure in Russia's Krasnodar Krai. The General Staff of the AFU confirmed the successful strike on these military and logistical assets, reporting a direct hit on the refinery that resulted in a subsequent fire.
The Afipsky Oil Refinery, located in the settlement of Afipsky, has an annual processing capacity of 6.25 million tons, accounting for 2.1% of Russia's total oil refining volume. The attack ignited a fire at the plant. The port of Kavkaz, situated near the settlement of Chushka, was also struck, with destruction reported there. These strikes are part of Ukraine's broader effort to degrade Russia's war-sustaining capabilities.
Situation and Consequences
Specialists are currently assessing the precise extent of the damage. The AFU command stated that
“the systematic targeting of military infrastructure, defense industry enterprises, and facilities involved in supplying the Russian army will continue until the full cessation of the Russian Federation's armed aggression against Ukraine.”
This operation continues the AFU's strategy of dismantling key elements of Russia's military and logistical infrastructure that support its invasion. It underscores the ongoing intensity of the conflict, with both sides actively pursuing strategic targets deep behind enemy lines.
