Ukrainian Commander Warns of Critical Personnel Shortages, Even Elite Units Affected

Командир ЗСУ повідомляє про серйозний дефіцит кадрів, що зачіпає навіть елітні підрозділи.

Personnel Shortages Plague Ukraine's Armed Forces

In an interview with political analyst Yuriy Romanenko, Ukrainian serviceman Illia Shpoliansky highlighted a severe and growing crisis: a critical lack of personnel within the army. This shortage is felt most acutely in infantry units, but Shpoliansky stressed that even elite drone warfare units are being significantly impacted. The scale of the problem is expanding, causing deep concern among military leadership. This comes as Ukraine's forces face a protracted and demanding defense against a larger adversary.

Illia Shpoliansky identified the personnel deficit as the most critical issue facing the Ukrainian military.

"The tactical initiative we currently hold is due to the professionalism of the people carrying out their duties daily. We risk losing all of it simply because we don't have enough infantry,"
he emphasized. He noted that the shortage is not confined to the infantry but is also evident in drone units, particularly those formed within the last year.

Human Resource Management Reaches Crisis Point

According to Shpoliansky, the human resource management problem has reached colossal proportions.

"This problem has already reached such a colossal scale that unless some urgent measures are taken immediately, we will simply lose our short-term advantage,"
he stated. He reported that the personnel shortage is felt across the board, with frontline commanders consistently noting the issue.

Shpoliansky contrasted the current recruitment difficulties with his experience earlier in 2024:

"Earlier in 2024, when I was forming a company, I recruited 60 people and could be selective. I had the luxury of choosing personnel."
Today, he said, the situation has changed dramatically, with very few people signing contracts. He underscored the serious recruitment problem within the troops, which is a major cause for alarm among military personnel.

In light of these challenges, Illia Shpoliansky called for immediate measures to stabilize the frontline situation, aiming not just for temporary fixes but to ensure the long-term stability of Ukraine's Armed Forces.

The personnel shortage in the Ukrainian army is a pressing issue demanding urgent resolution. Amid ongoing hostilities, manpower challenges can critically impact operational effectiveness and national security. The government and military command must find ways to attract new recruits and improve service conditions to maintain the army's combat readiness for the long fight ahead.
