Shifting Battlefield Dynamics

Political analyst Volodymyr Pastukhov stated that Ukraine’s Armed Forces have regained the strategic initiative on the front lines, while strikes deep inside Russian territory have become a routine occurrence. He made this assessment during an interview published on the program 'Chisto Konkretnaya Politika' on the 'Khodorkovsky LIVE' channel. According to the expert, over the past three months, Ukraine has gradually moved out of the prolonged phase of Russian offensives. The Ukrainian military has learned to systematically dismantle enemy logistics, with attacks on oil refineries and transport corridors now following a consistent pattern. The 'Novorossiya' highway, which connects Rostov to Crimea, regularly comes under fire, leading to fuel shortages on the peninsula.

Forecasts and Challenges

Pastukhov predicts that the Kremlin will attempt to escalate the conflict by shifting its focus from the front lines to the rear. He expects a significant intensification of Russian strikes on Ukraine, targeting its rear areas and logistics.

'I anticipate a serious escalation of Russian strikes on Ukraine, on its rear and logistics,' the political analyst noted.
He also suggested the possibility of an increase in punitive strikes against cities. Pastukhov identified ballistic missiles as the main constraint for the Kremlin, emphasizing that Russia cannot produce enough missiles to destroy a major city.

Additionally, Pastukhov highlighted the shortage of missiles for Ukraine’s air defense systems. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been requesting additional ammunition from the United States, as weapons are also needed by Bahrain, the UAE, and Qatar. Pastukhov remarked that

'the fog of war has now become global. We operate mostly on rumors and figures we cannot verify.'
He also questioned the seriousness of the Kremlin’s strategic calculations: 'Are these serious strategic calculations behind this, or is it bravado and an adventure? I find it hard to say.'

As a result, the situation on the front remains tense, and expert forecasts point to the possibility of a new bloody phase in the war, which may be accompanied by intensified Russian strikes on Ukraine’s rear areas.

Pastukhov’s comments underscore the shifting dynamics on the battlefield, where Ukrainian forces are actively responding to Russian attacks, particularly by destroying the enemy’s logistical routes. At the same time, the expected escalation from the Kremlin could pose new threats to Ukraine’s population and infrastructure. Amid instability and the need for external support, international aid to Ukraine remains critical, especially in ensuring air defense and other military resources.

As the situation evolves, President Zelensky has outlined a potential timeline for concluding the active phase of the conflict.
