On August 15, a meeting is planned in Anchorage, Alaska, between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The talks will take place at the Elmendorf-Richardson military base and will focus primarily on the issue of ending the war in Ukraine. This meeting will be the first between the leaders since Trump's reelection.

Gazeta.ua has gathered interesting information about the city where this meeting will take place.

Anchorage is the largest city in the state of Alaska. According to the latest data, approximately 300,000 people live here, representing almost 40% of the state's total population. It is a true metropolis amidst the wilderness.

'Big Wild Life' is the official motto of Anchorage, and it fully reflects its essence. The city is surrounded by mountains, forests, and glaciers. Wild animals - moose, bears, bald eagles - are common here. Locals often see a moose strolling through the city streets or a bear spotted on the outskirts.

Anchorage is a key logistical hub. Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport is among the top five in the world for cargo traffic. Due to its geographical location, it is an ideal stop for cargo transport between Asia, Europe, and North America.

The city serves as the administrative, commercial, and military center of Alaska. It houses the large Elmendorf-Richardson military base, which, according to media reports, will serve as the meeting place for Trump and Putin. This base played a key role in the air defense system during the Cold War.

In 1964, Anchorage suffered from one of the most powerful earthquakes in history, measuring 9.2. This tragic yet significant part of the city's history.

City residents are active in sports and enjoy outdoor activities. Hiking, kayaking, fishing, and hunting are popular. Nearby is the Chugach National Park, where winter sports and dog sled racing are popular.

Anchorage is located far north, so summers have very long days while winters have very short ones. In June, the sun can shine for nearly 19 hours a day, while in December it is less than 6.

In conclusion, regarding the upcoming meeting between Trump and Putin in Anchorage, it is noteworthy that the city plays a key role in geopolitical events, being not only an important center for military-strategic discussions but also a place with phenomenal natural beauty and sports opportunities for local residents.
