What a New Study Reveals About Moisturizers
A study published in the journal Skin on July 1 at 5:30 PM examined how long hydration lasts after applying four popular moisturizing products. The findings indicate that the hydrating effect fades within three to five hours. Thirty healthy adult volunteers participated in the research, testing different creams on their skin.
Products Tested in the Study
The products evaluated included:
- SkinMedica HA5 hydrating serum (Eligna)
- Cetaphil budget moisturizer
- Eucerin budget moisturizer
- CeraVe budget moisturizer
According to the results, the SkinMedica HA5 serum provided hydration for nearly five hours. In contrast, Cetaphil and Eucerin creams retained moisture for up to 3.5 hours or less. CeraVe showed almost no improvement in skin hydration compared to untreated skin, indicating it was significantly less effective than the other products.
Researchers measured volunteers' skin moisture levels before applying the products, and again at one, four, and twenty-four hours after use. Based on the data, scientists recommend reapplying moisturizers every three to four hours to maintain optimal skin hydration.
This information is valuable for anyone seeking long-lasting skin hydration and effective products. The study highlights the importance of regular moisturizer use, especially in dry climates or during winter.
These findings underscore the relevance of understanding how well daily moisturizers perform. Knowing how long different products last can help consumers make smarter purchasing decisions and tailor their skincare routines to their skin's needs.
Maintaining proper hydration is crucial for skin health across various climate conditions.
