According to Главком: Andriy Shevchenko, the President of the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF), posted a heartfelt birthday message to his mother, Lyubov Mykolayivna, on Facebook. In his tribute, he expressed deep gratitude for her lifelong love, wisdom, and unwavering support. This public gesture offers a glimpse into the personal life of one of Ukraine's most celebrated sports figures.

A Storied Career and Legacy

Andriy Shevchenko is a legendary figure in Ukrainian football. He claimed the prestigious Ballon d'Or in 2004, becoming only the third Ukrainian to ever win the award. Shevchenko also holds the record for the most goals scored for the Ukrainian national team. His professional career began in 1992 with Dynamo Kyiv's reserve team in the First League, and he broke into the main squad during the 1994/95 season.

In 1999, Shevchenko transferred to Italian giants AC Milan for a fee of $25 million. During his tenure at Milan, he secured a host of major honors, including:

  • Serie A champion
  • Coppa Italia winner
  • Supercoppa Italiana winner
  • Champions League winner (2002/03)
  • UEFA Super Cup winner

For the national team, Shevchenko earned 111 caps, scoring 48 goals, and participated in the 2006 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2012. He later managed the Ukrainian national team in 2016 and ascended to the presidency of the UAF in 2024.

Recently, Shevchenko has publicly affirmed his confidence in the national team's head coach, Serhiy Rebrov. In his official capacity, the UAF president has also addressed the stance of the FIFA Council, which currently is not considering the reinstatement of Russian teams. His leadership comes at a critical time for Ukrainian football, which continues to navigate immense challenges on and off the pitch.

These developments highlight Shevchenko's active role as UAF president and his close family bonds, as evidenced by the warm birthday wishes for his mother. He remains a pivotal figure in Ukrainian football, with his actions demonstrating a clear commitment to developing the sport in Ukraine. His support for the national team's coaching staff and engagement on complex international issues underscore an active approach to the significant challenges facing Ukrainian football today.
