Meeting at Ukraine's Ministry of Development with Japanese Companies

According to Міністерство інфраструктури: A meeting was held at the Ministry for Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine as part of the second JUPITeR public-private mission. It involved representatives from 11 private Japanese companies. The primary goal was to engage Japan's private sector in long-term projects to rebuild Ukrainian infrastructure. The Japanese firms showcased innovative technologies applicable for reconstruction and modernization in infrastructure and housing construction.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Minister Maryna Denysiuk. Representing Japan was Kenichi Kawamura, Deputy Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism for International Projects. Several of the Japanese companies are already operating in Ukraine and plan to expand, signaling strong business interest in the Ukrainian market. Japan has been a key international partner for Ukraine, providing significant financial and humanitarian aid since the full-scale invasion began.

Discussion of Innovative Solutions

The meeting focused on several innovative solutions, including:

  • Noiseless installation of foundation supports for the rapid rebuilding of bridges and ports in complex conditions or dense urban areas;
  • Remote-control technologies for construction machinery to operate in hazardous zones;
  • Management of demolition waste;
  • Recycling construction debris and wet soil into high-quality materials for rebuilding roads or agricultural land.

Discussions also covered the construction, modernization, or restoration of water supply and sewage systems, humanitarian demining of water bodies, and other areas. The Ministry is considering integrating these technologies into current and future recovery projects. To ensure effective collaboration between Japanese businesses and local authorities as well as relevant state enterprises like the Restoration Agency and Ukrzaliznytsia, the Ministry's team will coordinate these processes.

Previous Japanese support has already delivered rails for railway infrastructure and assembled modular bridge structures to Ukraine, underscoring the established importance of bilateral cooperation.

Involving Japanese companies in rebuilding Ukraine's infrastructure could be a crucial step in the country's post-war recovery. Utilizing these innovative technologies would not only accelerate reconstruction but also enhance its efficiency. Collaboration with Japanese business also opens opportunities for developing new markets and strengthening economic relations between Ukraine and Japan.
