Arctic cold snap in Ukraine: when to expect snow and minus temperatures

According to ХВИЛЯ: An Arctic cold snap is expected in Ukraine from December 24 to December 26, 2023. During these days, the temperature will drop significantly, with night frosts ranging from 5 to 12 degrees, and during the day – from 2 to 7 degrees below zero. In the north and east of the country, nighttime temperatures will drop to 7-12 degrees below freezing. In Transcarpathia and the south, nighttime temperatures will range from 2 degrees above zero to 3 degrees below, and during the day – from 0 to 5 degrees above zero.

In Kyiv, on Christmas Eve and Christmas, temperatures are forecasted to be 8-10 degrees below freezing at night, while during the day it will fluctuate from 4 to 6 degrees below zero. On December 24, moderate snowfall is expected in the Carpathians and Precarpathia, as well as ice on the roads. The wind will be northeastern, with a speed of 5-10 m/s, and in the Carpathians, gusts may reach 15-20 m/s with a snowstorm.
