Yaroslav Amosov Climbs the UFC Ladder

According to Главком: Ukrainian mixed martial artist Yaroslav Amosov has surged four spots to secure a place in the UFC welterweight top 10 rankings, following his victory over Spain’s Joel Alvarez. This win marks the 30th of Amosov’s MMA career, with only a single professional loss on his record. The UFC welterweight division is currently led by Irish fighter Ian Machado Garry, who boasts 17 wins in 18 bouts, while Russian Islam Makhachev holds the championship belt.

Amosov earned his second UFC career win in May, submitting Alvarez in the second round via choke. Prior to this triumph, he held the 14th spot in the UFC rankings; now, he has climbed to 10th place. This achievement highlights his rapid rise in one of the sport’s most competitive weight classes.

Amosov’s UFC Debut and Broader Impact

Yaroslav Amosov made his UFC debut in December 2025, securing a first-round stoppage victory over American Neil Magny. That performance immediately propelled him into the top 15 rankings. A native of Irpin, Amosov is a four-time world champion in combat sambo. In June 2021, he made history as Ukraine’s first-ever Bellator champion by defeating Brazil’s Douglas Lima.

Beyond his athletic feats, following the onset of the full-scale invasion, Amosov joined the territorial defense forces to protect Irpin from occupiers. After the city was liberated, he recovered his hidden championship belt from the ruins of his mother’s home. These circumstances underscore his dedication to both sport and country.

Yaroslav Amosov’s victory over Joel Alvarez and his subsequent ranking boost in the UFC reflect the growing prominence of Ukrainian athletes on the international stage.

His achievements in mixed martial arts, coupled with his active civic stance during wartime, paint a picture of a Ukrainian sportsman who not only reaches the pinnacle of his sport but also serves as a model of patriotism and commitment to his nation. These factors may help fuel greater interest in MMA across Ukraine and inspire young athletes to pursue success on the world stage.

Amosov's recent ascent in the UFC rankings is part of a broader trend showcasing the talent of Ukrainian fighters in the octagon. For instance, Donchenko has also secured a match-up, indicating a growing presence of Ukrainian athletes in the UFC landscape. As these fighters gain recognition, their journeys not only inspire fans but also highlight the resilience and skill emerging from Ukraine's sports community.
