According to Главком: On May 5, Russian forces targeted a major port in the Greater Odesa area, damaging a civilian vessel flying the Cook Islands flag. The attack was aimed at civilian maritime infrastructure, but the ship’s crew emerged unharmed. Ukraine’s Sea Ports Authority confirmed:

The deceased rescuers were identified as Viktor Kuzmenko and Dmytro Skryl, both serving in the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. Ukraine’s President publicly named the fallen rescuers, honoring their dedication to duty. Kuzmenko had participated in over 50 responses to shelling incidents, while Skryl had devoted more than 20 years to the service.
