Russia's Attack Paralyzed Traffic on Kyiv Bridges: Passengers Walk — October 2, 2026
On the morning of October 2, restrictions on the Southern Bridge, Paton Bridge, and Metro Bridge severely complicated travel between the banks of Kyiv. Buses and trolleybuses were delayed, and some passengers made their way through the traffic jams on foot. Previous strikes near the Southern Bridge had already halted the metro and surface transport. This was reported by the Kyiv24 television channel.
Traffic Jams on Kyiv Bridges After the Attack on October 2, 2026
The Southern Bridge was completely closed to traffic in both directions. Partial restrictions were imposed on the Paton Bridge and Metro Bridge. As a result, traffic jams formed both at the entrances to the crossings and on the roads in the central part of the city.
According to Kyiv24, traffic on the Paton Bridge towards the left bank has essentially come to a standstill. Significant traffic jams were also reported on Pechersk and the Dnipro Embankment. A similar situation occurred on the left bank towards the right.
Kyiv Public Transport Changed Routes on October 2, 2026
Dozens of people were waiting at bus stops, and surface transport was running with delays. The Kyiv City State Administration announced changes to the routes of buses and trolleybuses. For trips to the left bank, transport was redirected via the Darnytsia Bridge.
Passengers who could not wait for a bus or trolleybus left the transport and walked. Taxi fares also became significantly more expensive: according to reports from capital Telegram channels, a trip from the left bank to the right cost more than 1000 UAH. Earlier, the city had already modified bus and metro routes to reduce the load on the transport system.
Damage to the Southern Bridge After the Russian Attack
At night, Russian troops attacked the Southern Bridge for the third time in one day. During the strikes on October 1, damage occurred to the road surface, bridge supports, guardrails, and concrete barriers of the metro. Traffic on the metro and surface transport at the crossing was halted.
After the attack, the city imposed restrictions to check the condition of the structures and organize traffic. When all crossings will return to normal operation is not specified in the provided reports. Earlier, traffic on the Southern Bridge was restricted due to road surface repairs.
